是新疆海拔最高、面积最大、风光秀丽的高山湖泊，又是大西洋暖湿气流最后眷顾的地方，因此有“大西洋最后一滴眼泪”的说法。赛里木湖景区共划分为环湖风光游览区域、草原游牧风情区域、生态景观保育区、天鹅及其他珍稀鸟类栖息地保护区、旅游综合服务区、原生态环境保持区等6个功能区。确定了赛里木湖中央核心部位水体、西海天鹅湿地草甸水体栖息地、查干郭勒冰雪生态探险景区3块特级保护区。2018年4月13日，入围“神奇西北100景”。
